Why is Riding so Hard??
If you've ever walked away still confused after asking a riding instructor how to do a half halt, or felt like there's too much to think about while riding while someone shouts to many instructions to you - You're not alone! Dressage has never come easily to me. I had to work so hard to do things, while other people would just "get it."
I remember crying after a lesson where the instructor kept on yelling at me "Don't pull his head down, ride it down!"
What does that even mean??
I've also had trainers that made everything so complex and convoluted that I felt like I was playing an equestrian version of Twister - right hand on red, twist your seat bones, is he overbent in the third vertebra, look up!!!
Looking back, things could have been so much simpler than they were if I just had access to two things:
1 - Clear goals when riding an exercise
2 - And simple, uncomplicated explanations
As a fellow untalented rider, I love giving the simple, uncomplicated advice that I was so hungry for when I started riding!
